Chapter Profile
The Morgan County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society was formed in 1981 as a department of the local Historical Society, and reorganized in 1986 as an independent organization. The Chapter has been chartered by the State of Ohio as a non-profit organization.
Our Mission
The Chapter is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and dissemination of genealogical and historical material relating to past residents of Morgan County, Ohio.
Meetings
The Chapter meets the 3rd Tuesday of February, May, August, and November, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kate Love Simpson Library, 358 E Main Street in McConnelsville, Ohio.
Newsletter
The Morgan Link is published by the Chapter quarterly. The Link reports activities and projects of the Society, and includes genealogical and historical information of interest to researchers with Morgan County, Ohio connections. Queries are published free for members. Non-members may submit queries for $1.00 each. Send queries to the chapter at:

Library
The Chapter's books, manuscripts, microfilm, and other genealogical and historical material is incorporated into the Kate Love Simpson Library, genealogy and local history collection.

What's New?

New Chapter Publication Planned
The Morgan County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society is inviting biographical articles on early settlers for a new publication, Morgan County, Ohio Pioneers. The featured pioneer must have been a resident of Morgan County, Ohio in, or before, 1850. Such articles typically include, but are not limited to, such information as parent's names, date and place of birth, marriages, date and place of death, cemetery data, names of children, occupations, religion, military service, place of residence, family lore, etc.
The length of each article is limited to two typed 8 1/2 by 11 pages of 12 pt. font. We strongly urge you to submit your contribution via email, to: ngheppell@yahoo.com. We ask that you format your story in a rich text format. This type of file will have an .rtf extension. If you absolutely cannot submit by email, we will accept a typed document, mailed to our chapter address, which is listed below.
A photograph may be submitted with the article, if desired. As with the biography, we strongly urge you to send a didital photo to: ngheppell@yahoo.com. This digital photo file should be in a jpeg format, with a .jpg extension. If you are scanning your photo, scan at 600 dpi, so that it will print well. As before, if you absolutely cannot send a digital photo, we will accept a photo mailed to our chapter address, which is listed below. This mailed photo should be a copy, as it will not be returned.
Each article should include the submitter/author's name (and address/email, if desired) and a few main sources for the information provided (Census, Genealogy Society publications, vital records, family records, etc.)
All submissions constitute permission to publish, and will become the property of the Morgan County, Ohio Chapter of OGS. No articles or photographs will be returned. Submissions will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis, until November 1, 2009. |
