Chapter Profile

The Morgan County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society was formed in 1981 as a department of the local Historical Society, and reorganized in 1986 as an independent organization.  The Chapter has been chartered by the State of Ohio as a nonprofit organization.

 

Our Mission

The Chapter is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and dissemination of genealogical and historical material relating to past residents of Morgan County, Ohio.

 

Meetings

The Chapter meets the 3rd Tuesday of February, May, August, and November, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kate Love Simpson Library, 358 E Main Street in McConnelsville, Ohio.

 

Newsletter

The Morgan Link is published by the Chapter quarterly. The Link reports activities and projects of the Society, and includes genealogical and historical information of interest to researchers with Morgan County, Ohio connections.  Queries are published free for members.  Nonmembers may submit queries for $1.00 each.  Send queries to the chapter at:

Membership

Membership rates are $10.00 single, $12.00 family, or out of country, per calendar year. Please send a stamped envelope if you wish to receive a membership card.

Single Membership     $10.00

Family Membership     $12.00

Library

The Chapter's books, manuscripts, microfilm, and other genealogical and historical material is incorporated into the Kate Love Simpson Library, genealogy and local history collection. 

Kate Love Simpson Library is located at:

358 E. Main Street,
McConnelsville, Ohio 43756.

Library Summer hours are: 

9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday--Friday
9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday 

All articles submitted for our Morgan Co., Ohio Pioneers publication have now been entered.  We have begun indexing.  The manuscript should go to print early 2012.

The following obituaries were added to our obituary database:  Florence (Posie) Dusenbery, Zoe Endicott, Chas. A. Gheen, Willard Gheen, James Glass, Ida Lindimore, James Weber Matson, Kenneth Matson, and Allie Moore. 

 

13 January 2012:

The following obituaries were added to our obituary database:  Charles Anderson, Edward Anderson, Leander Anderson, William H. Anderson, Dayton Edward Blaker, Charles Endicott, Isaac Endicott, and Harriet Lackey.
